Delinquent behaviours have been reported among primary school learners in Kisumu East Sub County. In this study, the researcher investigated the relationship between violent parental conflicts and delinquent behaviours among primary school learners in Ragumo Zone, Kisumu East Sub County. The objectives of the study were to determine the types of parental conflicts that learners are exposed to, to examine the relationship between parental conflicts and delinquent behaviours in learners, to establish the gender differences in learners' delinquent behaviours and to identify strategies for managing delinquent behaviours in learners. The present study was informed by Social Learning Theory espoused by Bandura. The employed a correlational survey research design to investigate the relationship between naturally occurring variables and how they interact with one another in a natural environment. The study population consisted of 551 Std 8 learners in all 10 public primary schools in Ragumo Zone in Kisumu East Sub County. 10 Headteachers and 10 Teacher Counsellors of each school formed the study population. The study sample consisted of 166 learners (83 females and 83 males) selected using simple random sampling method. The 10 Headteachers and the 10 Teacher Counsellors were purposively selected on account of their respective administrative positions since sampling them will further reduce their already too small number. To check the validity of the instruments, the researcher used expert guidance of the faculty members at the School of Education, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology to determine the appropriateness and comprehensiveness of the content used in the instruments. To test the reliability of the instruments, the researcher used internal consistency, reliability and a coefficient of 0.878 was reported. Data collected from the questionnaires was edited, coded and analysed using the computer data management software, SPSS (Version 20). Inferential statistics such as independent sample t-tests, Analysis of Variance (ANOV A), Pearson Correlation and regression analysis were used to analyse quantitative data. Thematic analysis was used to analyse qualitative data. The study found that indulgence in delinquency among the learners had positive correlations with all the three types of parental conflicts; mainly physical abuse, emotional/psychological abuse and economic abuse. Similarly, it was revealed that learners' indulgence in delinquent behaviour in school had positive correlations with parental conflicts in the family. The study also revealed that gender has significant influence on indulgence to delinquent behaviour of learners exposed to parental conflict at home and that on average, male learners indulge more in delinquent behaviours than their female counterparts when exposed to parental conflicts. The study recommended that parents should be good role models to the children and also be taught about parenting and the disadvantages of parental conflicts. Victims should also be directed to be involved in the activities of their places of worship while parents involved in parental conflicts should be identified and jointly counselled with their children. Learners should also be encouraged to uphold good morals and a sense of self control while policy makers should create awareness on child rights.en_US
