The premarital sex results into unwanted pregnancies increased, HIV risks as well as sexually transmitted infection, abortions and deaths. It also affects the school performance and the completion rate. A recent estimate by WHO shows that globally 60% of young women and 45% of youthful men have had sex before the age of 18years.The sub-Saharan Africa forms a significant percentage in accounting for the high prevalence of premarital sex among teenagers. In Kenya, premarital sex is reported among adolescents at the age of 12 to 23 years. However, the prevalence and risk factors are poorly understood in peri-urban settings. In addition, the capacity to manage the outcome has not been investigated. This study therefore was proposed to establish the prevalence of premarital marital sex, knowledge on risk factors and also evaluated the ability to manage outcome among 407adolescent youths in secondary schools in Kadibo Division, Nyando Sub County. This research project adopted descriptive cross-sectional study design. The adolescent youths were recruited from the Kadibo Division public secondary schools. The study participants were selected using both random and purposive sampling techniques. Throughout data collection, quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The research instrument utilized were semi-structured questionnaires for the adolescent youths and17guidance and counseling teachers. Also used for data entry and evaluation was the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22. The study used descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, to analyze quantitative data. On the other hand, qualitative data was be analyzed manually through thematic analysis to create themes, trends and patterns. The study revealed a high sex prevalence of 50.83%. Regarding knowledge of the risk factors, majority of the adolescent youths exhibit knowledge on risk factors of premarital sex with 88.5% agreeing on poor socioeconomic statutes as a major risk factors. The study shows the adolescent youths do not have adequate knowledge on the management of outcome of premarital sex with 62% admitting to use unacceptable means such as abortion, running way and not knowing what to do. The findings of the study show high prevalence of premarital sex and also provide some critical insights on potential risk factors that need immediate intervention. It further shows poor preparedness of adolescents to manage the outcome of premarital sex. It therefore unearths the need for policy makers and implementers, organizations, advocacy groups, to come up with educational and counseling programs that are geared towards empowering the adolescent youth. In addition, the findings of this study provide an impetus for sex education in school.en_US
