To ensure face, content, and construct validities of the research instruments, supervisors and members of the school of Education at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology who are experts in this study area scrutinized the research instruments. Pretesting through piloting was done in four schools that were not sampled in Bondo Sub-county. Test re test method of establishing the reliability of questionnaires was used. Quantitative data from questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as Pearson’s product-moment correlation and regression analysis. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. This is essentially a method for identifying and analyzing patterns in qualitative data. The findings indicated a strong positive influence of (r = .635) school incentives on effectiveness of student councils; a strong positive influence of (r = .672) inductions on the effectiveness of student councils; a strong positive influence of (r = .682) leadership Training and Mentorship on effectiveness of students’ council. The study found a strong positive influence of democratic, transactional, and transformational Leadership styles on the effectiveness of students’ council in promoting discipline. A strong negative influence of (r = .557) Authoritarian Leadership style on the effectiveness of students’ council. It’s recommended that the Kenyan Ministry of Education should develop a manual for prefects training and mentorship for secondary schools for the effectiveness of students’ council.en_US
