The role played by psychosocial experiences on students with nocturnal enuresis in any learning environment cannot be overemphasized. Nocturnal enuresis is a common problem globally among students in secondary schools. Despite the number of cases of students with nocturnal enuresis in boarding secondary schools in Kisumu County, their experiences with people around them was not clear. The purpose of this study was to examine psychosocial experiences of students with nocturnal enuresis in public boarding secondary schools in Kisumu County. The research objectives were: to find out the psychological experiences of students who have nocturnal enuresis with peers, to establish psychological experiences of students who have nocturnal enuresis with teachers, to examine the social experiences of students who have nocturnal enuresis with peers, to establish the social experiences of students who have nocturnal enuresis with teachers, to find out strategies for coping used by students with nocturnal enuresis. In utilizing phenomenological design under qualitative approach paradigm, the present study was informed by Erick Erickson’s psychosocial theory and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory. Population of the study was 244 participants: 196 nocturnal enuresis students, 24 Boarding Teachers and 24 Principals in public boarding secondary schools in Kisumu County. Purposive sampling was adopted to get 6 public boarding secondary schools. Purposive sampling was used to arrive at 30 nocturnal enuresis students. Purposive sampling was used to obtain 13 Boarding Teachers and 13 Principals. A total of 56 informants were sampled for the study. Indepth interview was used to collect qualitative data from nocturnal enuresis students, Boarding Teachers and Principals. A Focus Group Discussion was also used to collect data from students with nocturnal enuresis to reinforce and confirm authenticity of data. Trustworthiness of the interview was done to establish authenticity. Data gathered through in depth interview and Focus Group Discussion were thematically analyzed. The study found out that students with nocturnal enuresis experienced: low self-esteem, anger, increased stress levels, anxiety, antisocial behaviour and stigma with peers; increased hostility, emotional instability, increased empathy, uncontrolled nervousness, increased stress levels and paranoid behaviour with teachers; social experiences: stigma, social isolation, loneliness and antisocial behaviour with peers; reciprocal cordial relationship and inclusive responsibility appointment with teachers. Coping strategies included: periodical urination control, low fluid intake, bedwetting alarm, behavioural control and bedwetting medicine. Emerging issues included: low concentration in class, avoidance of academic groups and cases of indiscipline. The study concluded that students with nocturnal enuresis experienced psychological and social difficulties with peers and teachers. Coping strategies reduced nocturnal enuresis among the students. The study recommended that schools should organize with parents to identify students with nocturnal enuresis on admissions so as to be helped. Relevant stakeholders should organize seminars for Boarding Teachers, Guidance and Counselling Teachers and Housekeepers on how to handle the students who have nocturnal enuresis. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) may use the findings from this study to influence policy on handling students with nocturnal enuresis. The study recommended a three systems’ model as an intervention for nocturnal enuresis.en_US
